HOUSE FIRE INJURES MAN: A house fire in north Modesto sent a man to the hospital early Thursday morning with smoke inhalation, according to fire officials. Three engines and two trucks responded to the fire about midnight on Mansfield Lane, near Sherwood Park, to find smoke and flames coming from a bedroom window, said Battalion Chief Mark Johansen with the Modesto Fire Department. The man had gotten out of the house but had gone back inside looking for a family member who, unknown to him, also had gotten out. Johansen said the smoke inhalation was minor and the man was taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure. His name was unavailable. Crews cut a hole in the roof and brought the fire under control within 15 minutes, Johansen said. Crews were on the scene for about four hours. The fire was limited to two front bedrooms, he said. The cause is under investigation.
