DRUG CHARGES KEEP MOUNTING: First, Dana Fredrickson, 52, was arrested when a Merced police officer saw him spit out a small package of heroin when the officer approached him inside a store, police reported Thursday. Then, while Fredrickson was being booked into the Merced County Jail on suspicion of possession of heroin, jail staff discovered 6.5 grams of heroin concealed in his body during a cavity search. Fredrickson was booked on additional counts of possession of heroin for sale and bringing narcotics into a jail facility. Sgt. Alan Ward credited an alert officer, Joseph Perez, with making the arrest shortly after 6:30 p.m. Wednesday after Perez followed Fredrickson inside a store in the 1500 block of Stretch Road. Fredrickson reportedly had been acting suspicious outside the store and went inside when he saw Perez drive up in a patrol car.
