Silgan Containers Corp. reached an agreement Sunday with workers who have been locked out of a Modesto plant since Oct. 22, a union leader said. The 80 or so Teamsters members ratified the contract Sunday morning, shop steward Mike McGuire said. The agreement included a small wage increase, along with company contributions to health insurance and pensions, he said. A Silgan spokesman could not be reached for comment Sunday. The plant, on South Riverside Drive in the Beard Industrial Tract, makes metal containers for canneries. Silgan has two other Modesto plants and one in Riverbank, but they weren't involved in the lockout and are not covered under the new contract, Silgan employee Lloyd Ellis said.
