MAN GUILTY OF BEATING CHILD: A jury found a Modesto man guilty of inflicting corporal punishment on a child after a three-day trial last week, according to a statement from the Stanislaus County district attorney's office. Deputies from the Sheriff's Department were called to the home of Jabari Lee Craft on May 26 to investigate a report of suspected child abuse. Authorities said they found a 2-year-old child who had been spanked numerous times with a belt that left marks and bruises on the child's arms, legs and back. Craft, 20, is scheduled to return to Stanislaus County Superior Court on Nov. 28 to be sentenced. He faces as long as six years in prison.
