BUDDY POPPY DONATION DRIVE: Members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3199 will conduct their annual buddy poppy drive on Saturday and Nov. 10, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m., in front of Raley's supermarkets at Standiford Avenue and Tully Road, and at Orangeburg Avenue and Oakdale Road. All donations go to the veterans' relief fund.
RED CROSS NEEDS BLANKETS: As the weather turns cooler, the American Red Cross reports more requests for blankets for homeless and low-income community members. The blankets do not need to be new, but they should be clean and in usable condition. SENIOR HEALTH: A Senior Health Information Day is being sponsored by the Patterson SEAPA Forum today, from 9 a.m. to noon, at Father Connors Hall, 505 M St. Organizers said the event will feature information areas from the Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (sharing information about MediCare's open enrollment terms), Del Puerto Health Care and Golden Valley Health (providing medical services), Stanislaus County's Senior Access Team and Medi-Cal long-term care representatives. FIRE MEETING: A Fire Safe meeting will be held today for homeowners in Tuolumne County to discuss fire protection, emergency preparedness, and prevention measures needed to protect life, property and resources from wildfires. Organizers said the open public meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Sonora City Fire Department, Station 75, 201 S. Shepherd St. The purpose of the meeting is to gather fire safety suggestions and comments from homeowners and private landowners within urban wildland interface areas along the Highway 108 corridor, ranging from Jamestown, Columbia and Sonora to Twain Harte, Cedar Ridge, Mi-Wuk Village, Sugar Pine, Sierra Village, Pinecrest, Strawberry and surrounding areas.
SPAGHETTI DINNER: The Escalon Historical Society will hold an all-you-can-eat spaghetti fund-raiser Saturday at the Escalon Masonic Lodge, 1500 Viking St., from 5 to 8 p.m. The cost is $7.50 for adults and $5 for children 11 and under. Tickets are available at the Escalon Museum or at the door.
CABRILLO CIVIC CLUB PANCAKE BREAKFAST: Tickets are available for a breakfast of pancakes, eggs, linguica, Portuguese beans, coffee, juice and milk for $6. The breakfast is Sunday from
