JOB FAIR TABLES OPEN
Area employers can participate in the Spring Job Fair for Modesto Junior College students from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 25 in the East Campus Student Center, 435 College Ave. The event is free of charge to equal-opportunity employers with current openings for full-time or part-time, hourly or salary-based employment opportunities. No jobs based on commission are permitted. MJC will provide a parking pass, table and chairs for employers. Employers who are unable to attend may advertise their positions by calling the Career Center or visiting www.mjc.edu/employers.
The Modesto Junior College African American Education Conference will be 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 28 in the Mary Stuart Rogers Student Learning Center on the west campus, 2201 Blue Gum Ave. The free conference for ages 13 to 21 aims to encourage students to stay in school, plan for college and develop skills to ensure student success. Parents are encouraged to attend, as well. The conference will include workshops on counseling, financial aid and MJC’s First Year Experience program. Entertainment will include Pan African Drumming by Khemya MitRahina, a show by step team Omega Gents, spoken word by Brandi Spencer and music by the band Ahousuo Morado. The keynote speaker will be actress Cynthia Foreman, owner of Sweetie Pies LLC. Foreman has written and performed in her own one-woman production of “Bruised, But not Broken,” raising funds for battered women’s shelters. Check-in begins at 7:30 a.m. Admission and parking are free, but preregistration is required by emailing email@example.com (include “AAE Conference” in the subject line) by Friday. EDUCATOR INTERNSHIPS OPEN
Stanislaus Partners in Education is accepting applications for its summer Educator Internship Program. The 40-hour internships are for educators of middle school through community college. Educators interview and shadow employees at local businesses and government agencies to learn about area workplaces and translate the experience into classroom lessons.
