Here in the Northern San Joaquin Valley, we have a variety of wing shops, with more on the way. Buffalo Wild Wings plans to launch in Turlock’s Monte Vista Crossings later this year. Most recently, a Wingstop landed in Ceres.
Bacon, it seems. is all over the place these days. I remember my colleague Marijke Rowland bringing in maple bacon cupcakes from The Cupcake Lady a couple of years back when she wrote about the bakery. I thought they sounded ridiculous, and of course, when I tried them, they were ridiculously good.
Two Modesto restaurants, one around for a long time and one significantly newer, have new owners and new names. In one case, the change is drastic; in the other, a significant shift but not a complete upheaval.
One of Modesto’s oldest fitness clubs is undergoing an evolution. Right down to the name. Fitness Evolution announced this week it had taken over the Modesto Court Room, a McHenry Avenue institution for 36 years.
Former middle school teacher Darlene Dover opened a higher-end boutique in 2008 and has been expanding ever since. In 2011, Dover opened a second store on Main Street in Turlock. The following year, she opened a store in Modesto’s McHenry Village. And just last week, a new Envy opened on North Blackstone Avenue in Fresno.
Daydreams & Nightmares, a longtime Modesto costume rental and theatrical makeup shop, moved into a new location earlier this year. Since the move, owner Dana Walters said, strange things have been happening.
