Convincing a lender to modify a mortgage takes preparation.
Homeowners planning to attend a foreclosure prevention workshop should bring all the information they can to document their financial situation, including all the paperwork they have about their mortgages.
Consumer advocates say these are some examples of what homeowners should bring to meetings with lenders or credit counselors:
- Financial hardship letter — Write an explanation of your hardship or reason for being delinquent on your mortgage. Include what you plan to do to resolve your hardship.
Never miss a local story.
Completing such a form will be required for those attending Saturday's foreclosure prevention workshop in Modesto. An easy-to-print copy of that form is posted at www.modbee.com/housing.
