75 YEARS AGO: It was announced that a two-day strike at a cannery in Riverbank ended. When it ended a strike committee was formed, made up of four men and three women, to represent 700 employees. This committee would hear grievances and other matters related to plant workers. The head of the group was Louis Saracino, steward in the plant and chairman. The workers decided that those employees who broke the picket line could join the union for a $12 initiation fee instead of the regular $2 fee that everyone else could pay.
