A large, wind-driven vegetation fire off Maze Boulevard at the San Joaquin River on Wednesday evening had a number of area fire agencies responding.
The fire broke out about 6:30 p.m. on the west side of the Stanislaus River and east side of the San Joaquin, at the rivers' confluence.
Fire officials on the scene said San Joaquin County firefighters already had been fighting a fire on that county's side of the San Joaquin River, and ignited vegetation from the fire caught the wind and was carried to the Stanislaus County side.
The fire was large enough that several agencies were called out, but an acreage figure was not available Wednesday evening.
Never miss a local story.
Firefighters had the blaze well under control by about 7:30 p.m.
