As wildfires rage in parts of California to the north and south, the Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit of Cal Fire is restricting burn hours.

Starting Monday, outdoor burning is permitted only from 7 p.m. to 8 a.m., the state Department of Forestry and Fire Protection said in a news release Friday. Cooler temperatures and higher humidity during those hours make for safer burning conditions.

Fires are allowed only on permissive burn days, and permits must be obtained.

More information is available at the following: Stanislaus and San Joaquin counties, 877-429-2876; Tuolumne County, (209) 533-5598; and Calaveras County, (209) 754-6600.
