Investigators with the California Highway Patrol is asking for the public’s help in their search for a witness to a fatal accident last week near Patterson.
The accident happened just before 10 a.m. March 30 on Highway 33 just south of the city limit. Fabian Moralez, 21, was driving a 1999 Acura Integra south near Pomelo Avenue when he lot control of the car, the CHP said.
The car went toward the shoulder of the highway, then across the northbound lanes and into a utility pole. A passenger, identified as Gabriel Barajas, Jr., 21, of Patterson, was killed. A second passenger, 17-year-old Samuel Moralez Jr., suffered serious injuries. The CHP said all three were wearing seat belts.
Investigators are looking for the driver of a a 2005-07 Dodge Charger that was in the area at the time. They described the car as purple, a color known as “Plum Crazy” with a black hood, black rear spoiler and “Daytona” lettering on the sides.
Investigators said it’s possible the driver doesn’t realize he or she has information that would help the CHP. They ask anyone with information on the crash or the Charger to contact the Modesto CHP office at (209) 545-7440.
