A Saturday morning crash on Highway 33 just south of Patterson killed a 21-year-old Patterson man, the California Highway Patrol reported, but his name was not released pending notification of his family.
The man was a passenger and one of three people in a 1999 Acura Integra that crashed about 10 a.m. Fabian Moralez, 21, was driving south on the highway near Pomelo Avenue when he lost control of his car, according to the CHP. Moralez turned toward the highway's shoulder, then drove across the northbound lane and hit a utility pole, the report said.
The driver and the second passenger, 17-year-old Samuel Moralez Jr., were taken to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto with minor to moderate injuries. The two also are Patterson residents. The CHP said the three of them were wearing seat belts.
Alcohol and drugs are not suspected as factors in the crash. The CHP closed Highway 33 south of Patterson for about two hours after the crash.
