One dead, two hurt in early morning shooting

One person is dead, a second paralyzed and a third wounded but stable after an early morning shooting in south Modesto today, authorities reported.

Just before 1 a.m., deputies responded to a shooting in the 1500 block of Modoc Avenue. When they arrived, they found a male and two females who had been shot, according to the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department.

Their ages and names have not been released.

The victims were sitting in a parked vehicle on Modoc when a white SUV drove past them, according to detectives. Occupants in the SUV fired at the victims then fled.

A male in his late teens was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Sheriff's Department.

He is the seventh person to be killed this year in a homicide. Four others were men; two were women. Most were killed by gunfire.

Two females also were shot this morning. Authorities said one was paralyzed and the other is in stable condition.

No further information has been released.
