Firefighters with the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Protection District, the Modesto, Turlock, Patterson and Manteca fire departments and other personnel staged a flag-lowering ceremony in Santa Barbara in honor of Cory Iverson, the Cal Fire engineer who died in the Thomas Fire.

Smartphone habits may force doctors to ask patients a few more questions when diagnosing vision or neurological problems. “I think if a person experiences a temporary loss of vision in one eye, that’s potentially a very important problem for which they should seek medical attention,” says Mayo Clinic neurologist Dr. Dean Wingerchuk. “But it doesn’t always mean there’s an abnormality.”
A four-vehicle collision on northbound Highway 99 at Salida slowed traffic during the evening commute Thursday night. Those involved suffered minor injuries. At least one lane of traffic was closed, as well as the northbound onramp to Highway 99 from Highway 219, while the wreckage was removed from the highway. All lanes were expected to reopen by 7 p.m.
Los Angeles Police are searching for a man who was caught on camera breaking into homes in Studio City between November 28 and December 3, wearing a Santa hat and scarf.
The LAPD press release said the suspect knocked on doors and rang door bells to assess if anyone was home. “When no one answered the door, the suspect would gain entry to the backyards of the homes, smash a rear patio sliding door or back window, then enter the homes,” the press release said. “Once inside, the suspect removed cash, jewelry, safes, and firearms before leaving. A get-a-way driver has been seen in a dark sedan.”
Jennifer Pallone's son Andy, of O'Fallon, Ill., has a chromosomal abnormality called 15Q24, resulting in developmental delays, some mild orthopedic problems, a hole in his heart and low muscle tone, his mother says. He was the first person in the United States to be diagnosed with the disorder and he is the oldest in the world with it.
