Some Turlock Irrigation District customers were without electricity Friday, owing to the first rain this fall.
In Ceres, about 30 customers were affected by an outage at 5:45 a.m. The Ceres outage, and a small one in Delhi, were caused by weather-related pole fires, a TID spokesman said. The power was restored shortly after 11 a.m.
Crews also responded to a utility pole that was struck by a car in Hilmar, near August Avenue and Oslo Street.
TID’s Calvin Curtin said small, scattered outages are fairly common with the first rainfall. The rainwater mixes with dust covering wires and insulators on poles, allowing electricity to arc across the insulators.
