75 YEARS AGO: It was announced that town of Empire dedicated a new church, Church of the Brethren. Seven hundred people were in attendance for the dedication and 500 attended the dinner. Those in attendance donated $4,176 in cash and pledges to help with the church’s debt. The Church of the Brethren was valued at $40,000, but with so much volunteer labor offered in its construction and the use of materials from the old church, the cost of the new church did not exceed $21,000.
