Lindsay and another Ripon officer, Matthew Ford, attended a Regional Occupational Program dinner at the San Joaquin County Board of Education office in January. During the event, a man started to choke. Lindsay, with Ford's help, used the Heimlich maneuver on the man. It cleared the man's airway, enabling him to breathe freely.

The state's Emergency Medical Services Authority will present Lindsay, a 57-year-old school resource officer, with an Inter-Service EMS Recognition Medal on Dec. 2 during a ceremony at the Marines' Memorial Club and Hotel in San Francisco.

Former valley resident Matthew Gouaux has been selected as one of two Barristers of the Year for the 3,200-member Bar Association of San Francisco. He'll receive the award during the association's annual luncheon Dec. 17 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in San Francisco.

Gouaux, 31, grew up in Manteca. He swam for the Manteca Dolphins and graduated from Manteca High School in 1996. He earned his under-

graduate degree at California State University, Stanislaus, and completed his law degree at the University of the Pacific's McGeorge School of Law in 2006.

He interned with Curtis & Arata in Modesto and works in San Francisco for Trucker Huss, the largest employee benefits specialty law firm on the West Coast.
