Riverbank plans to expand its city museum by buying the vacant building next door.
City Manager Rich Holmer said the city is paying $65,000 for the building at 3231 Santa Fe St. He said the building has been vacant for five years and last housed a barbershop and a hair salon. He said the property is in escrow and the city should take possession in December. Holmer said the seller is Desi Reno.
He said the Riverbank Historical Museum is about 1,500 square feet. The vacant building is about 1,900 square feet, according to public records.
Holmer said it will be used to house exhibits, such as one featuring a 1925 Riverbank firetruck in pristine condition. He said it will be at least a year until the building is renovated and can be used as part of the museum.
He said the city and the historical society will team up to look at ways to pay for renovating the building.
