40 YEARS AGO: Scores reported from the Stanford Reading Tests given to 7,384 students in grades one through three, six and 10 showed pupils in first through third and 10th grade equaled or exceeded statewide averages. Students in the sixth grade already had exceeded the state average two years earlier.
