Wild money lead lengthens in MID race

Challenger more than triples donations to Serpa

In the three Modesto Irrigation District races, challenger Glen Wild widened his fund-raising edge over incumbent Mike Serpa, and incumbents Tom Van Groningen and Paul Warda pulled away from their rivals.

A few large donors gave money in all three races, supporting Wild, Van Groningen and Warda.

Serpa raised $3,130 in the latest period, bringing his total to $5,847. He has borrowed $10,000. His donors included $1,000 from Lawrence Serpa of Modesto and $500 from the Stanislaus County Democratic Club.

Wild raised $11,285 in the latest period, bringing his total to $15,826. He also has borrowed $10,000. His contributions included $500 from Kennan Beard of Modesto, $900 from Britton-Konynenburg Partners, $150 from former Modesto Councilman Tim Fisher, $500 from Salida Unified School District administrator Ana Garcia of Modesto, $500 from Garcia Farming of Modesto, $500 from Mary Lyons of Modesto, $1,000 from Melvin T. Wheeler & Sons of Modesto, $1,000 from the Modesto Chamber of Commerce, $500 from Martin Reyes of Winton and $250 from former county Supervisor Ray Simon.

Serpa and Wild are running in Division 2, central Modesto.

In Division 3, mainly northeast Modesto, Van Groningen raised $12,276 in the latest period to bring his total to $21,244. This included $500 from real estate investor Stephen Endsley of Modesto, $500 from Ana Garcia, $500 from Garcia Farming, $500 from Mary Lyons, $1,000 from Wheeler & Sons, $1,000 from the chamber, $500 from Martin Reyes and $200 from Ray Simon. Van Groningen has borrowed $7,500.

Division 3 challenger Richard Harriman raised $2,191 in the latest period, bringing his total to $3,183. This included $1,000 from Thomas Harriman of Santa Barbara. Harriman has borrowed $4,450.

In Division 4, including Salida and northwest Modesto, Warda raised $12,878 in the latest period. This included $500 from Central Valley Automotive, $500 from Britton-Konynenburg Partners, $250 from county Supervisor Jim DeMartini, $500 from Ana Garcia, $500 from Garcia Farming, $500 from Mary Lyons, $1,000 from Wheeler & Sons, $500 from Martin Reyes, $500 from Joan Simon and $1,000 from Steven Zeff. Warda has borrowed $5,000.

Division 4 challenger Ted Donham raised $1,669 in the latest period, bringing his total to $4,800. It includes $500 from International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
