A SOLO PERFORMANCE BENEFIT

INFO: "Always the Women," a solo performance of Jesus' encounters with women in the Gospels, is a benefit to support the International Justice Mission, a human rights organization that secures justice for victims of slavery, sexual exploitation and other forms of violent oppression. INFO: The Veterans of Foreign Wars Patriot's Pen essay contest gives students enrolled in sixth, seventh and eighth grades in a public, private, parochial school or home study program an opportunity to express their opinions in written essays of 300 to 400 words on the patriotic theme "When is the right time to honor our military heroes?" From the local level, the winners will move on to district, state and then national competition, and prizes will be awarded at all levels. Essay and entry forms are due to Post Commander Denis Wells no later than Nov. 1. Complete rules and entry forms can be obtained from Denis or Sue Wells at 394-2059 or at www.vfw.org. VOICE OF DEMOCRACY AUDIO ESSAY CONTEST

INFO: The Veterans of Foreign Wars Voice of Democracy contest is an audio essay contest that gives students enrolled in ninth through 12th grades in a public, private, parochial school or home study program an opportunity to express their opinions in three- to five-minute audio cassette tapes or CDs on the theme "Does America still have heroes?" From the local level, the winners will move on to district, state and then national competition, and prizes will be awarded at all levels.
