CHANGING YOUR CHILD'S BEHAVIOR: Jill Molli, from Loving Guidance, will present "Conscious Discipline" in two workshops geared for parents. "Consequences That Work" is 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today in the Mary Stuart Rogers Center on the Modesto Junior College West Campus. The event is open seating and registration is not required. On Saturday, from 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m., Molli will cover "Consequences That Teach Responsibility: Changing Behavior and Restructuring the Brain," with a focus on children in the professional setting. This event requires registration and there is a fee. The event will be held in the Martin G. AUTHOR TO SIGN BOOK ON MANCINI: Author Kathleen Gooch will be at the McHenry Museum on Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. She will sign her book, "Frank Mancini -- Modesto's Music Man," a biography of "Proof" Mancini, and a history of MoBand, the Modesto Symphony Orchestra and the Modesto High School and Modesto Junior College bands and orchestras. The book includes an extensive photo collection of musicians from these groups and a CD of a 1930 recording of Mancini conducting. The museum is at 1402 I St. For more information, call 491-4347l.

TEA FOR BREAST CANCER: The American Cancer Society Discovery Shop is holding a tea today and Saturday to heighten breast cancer awareness. Enjoy a cup of tea with the volunteers and browse the selection of tea cups, pots and accessories in the store. PHOTOGRAPHY CLASS: The city's Parks, Recreation and Neighborhoods Department is offering "Photography: The Enlargement of Vision," beginning Saturday, and continuing through Nov. 10, at the Senior Center, 211 Bodem St. The class will meet Saturdays, 9 to 10:30 a.m. The fee is $55 for six sessions. WESTERN BARBECUE: Tuolumne River Lodge's Deep-Pit Western BBQ will be Saturday. Tri-tip will be cooked in the classic Western way -- underground. There will be a variety of other barbecue, too. A no-host bar will open at 5 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:30, with entertainment, prizes and drawings. Someone will win a cruise to Mexico. SEATS STILL AVAILABLE: The annual McHenry Mansion table-setting fund-raiser will be Oct. 17-18 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 1813 Oakdale Road. The table settings will be on display from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. Wednesday, with beverages and dessert for $10. The luncheon will be Thursday beginning at 11 a.m., with food served at 12:30 p.m. Tickets are $30; call 491-4347.

WATERCOLORS ON EXHIBIT: Local artists were invited to submit watercolor paintings of the McHenry Mansion, with one being chosen to be used for notecards. Sixteen artists responded and their efforts will be on display through Oct. 31. A reception will be held Oct. 21 from 1 to 3 p.m., and is open to the public. The winner of the contest will be announced at 2:30 p.m. and a $500 prize will be awarded.
