STANISLAUS COUNTY AVOID THE 12

Info: The following cities are taking part in a Stanislaus County Avoid the 12 enforcement operation:

DUI/drivers licence checkpoint -- Friday, 8 p.m. to 2 a.m., Ceres.

DUI/drivers licence checkpoint -- Saturday, 7 p.m. to 3 a.m., Turlock.

DUI saturation patrols -- Saturday, 8 p.m. to 3 a.m., Turlock and Oakdale.

DUI saturation patrols -- Monday, 8 p.m. to 3 a.m., Turlock and Newman.

Modesto

ST. JOSEPH'S FUN RUN

When: Saturday. 8:15 a.m. one-mile start; 8:30 a.m., 5K start.

Where: St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 1813 Oakdale Road.

FREE FAMILY NIGHT MOVIE

When: Friday, 7 p.m.

Where: Mancini Bowl in Graceada Park, 401 Needham St.

Info: The night starts with games and activities, and at dusk a cartoon will begin the evening followed by a showing of "Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa." CPR/FIRST AID INSTRUCTOR TRAINING

When: Saturday through Sunday, and Sept. 12

Where: American Red Cross, 1230 Sixth St.

Info: The Stanislaus County Chapter of the American Red Cross will offer the lay responder CPR/First Aid Instructor Training Course. This class allows you to teach others lifesaving skills. VALLEY WINE AND FOOD EXPEDITION

When: Friday, 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Where: St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Father O'Hare Hall, 1813 Oakdale Road

MODESTO BOYS CHOIR AUDITIONS

When: Thursday, 3:30 to 6 p.m.

Where: Summit Charter Academy, 2036 E. Hatch Road

Info: Open to all boys in first through 12th grades who like to sing. Auditions are held to determine vocal placement and ability to match pitch. Call Kathy Narbona at 604-0660 to set up an audition time, which is by appointment only. If you cannot make the audition, call for an alternative appointment. First rehearsal of season two begins Sept. 14. Tuition is $150 per semester.

When: Saturday and Sunday, park opens 5 a.m.

Where: Mistlin Sports Park, Jack Tone and River roads

Info: Hot air balloon inflation and launch, tethered hot air balloon rides, pancake breakfast, shine and show car display, vendors, free concerts with The Sun Kings, a Beatles tribute band, and Mars Hill Revisited and more.
