A Bay Area man was sentenced to two years in prison after Modesto police officers found 9 pounds of marijuana, scales and $2,900 in his Orangeburg Avenue motel room, the Stanislaus County district attorney's office reported. Danville resident Ruben Ramirez, 35, was convicted of possession of marijuana for sale, according to a news release issued Wednesday. Officers were on routine patrol Sept. 11 at the Motel 6 at 1920 W. Orangeburg Ave. when they smelled marijuana from Ramirez's motel room, according to the news release. A search turned up the pot, scales and cash. Ramirez previously served time in prison, according to the release.
