Each year the Hughson Historical Society honors residents who have lived in the community for more than 50 years. This year's honorees are MaryAnne and Everett Aldrich and Melba and William Spears.
Coincidentally, both couples are celebrating their 65th wedding anniversaries this year.
Everett Aldrich has lived all of his 85 years in Hughson, where his ancestors settled in 1908. He has been a lifetime farmer. MaryAnne was born near Denair but graduated from Hughson High in 1944. They are lifelong members of First United Methodist Church.
Melba and William Spears have lived in Hughson since 1947. William worked as a ranch foreman and then as a drywall hanger. Both worked in the nut harvests. Melba also worked for the Hughson Ministerial Clothes Closet. They are active in the Full Gospel Assembly of God.
They and their families will be honored at a dinner Saturday at Samaritan Village.
Marci Boucher has been named executive director of the Society for Handicapped Children and Adults, a nonprofit agency providing services and programs for physically challenged children and adults in Stanislaus County.
Boucher most recently served as director of development at Habitat for Humanity, Stanislaus, and previously worked for the Modesto Gospel Mission.
The society offers sign language classes, home transportation support, referral services for the disabled and a loan closet of adaptive equipment such as wheelchairs, hospital beds and walkers.
Members of the Doctors Medical Center Service League were honored at a recent quarterly meeting and luncheon. The volunteers: 500 hours: Margaret Haag, Audrey White; 1,000 hours: Pat Holmes; 1,500 hours: Gladys Ahart, Barbara Baughman; 2,000 hours: Kay Fether; 4,500 hours: Charlotte Harvey; 6,000 hours: Rosa Rossini; 6,500 hours: Phyllis Almazan, and 10,000 hours: Sandy Beard.
Graduations: Sergio Iniguez of Modesto from the Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine. He plans a career in equine medicine and clinical research.
Erin Hannink of Riverbank from AmeriCorps' National Civilian Community Corps. A graduate of Beyer High and UCLA, Hannink was part of a team that responded to disasters across the country.
In Business: Chris Winget, a Realtor with Prudential California Realty Modesto, completed the Graduate Realtor Institute. She works at the firm's office on Sylvan Avenue.
