Fatal shooting in west Modesto

Stanislaus County sheriff's detectives were investigating a fatal shooting Saturday night in the 1200 block of Figaro Avenue in west Modesto.

Lt. Darin Gharat said detectives had two people in custody and were questioning them. Gharat said the shooting was reported at 9:50 p.m. Authorities pursued a suspect vehicle on Highway 99. The suspect vehicle crashed at West Main Street and the highway in Turlock. Gharat said no other details were available.

He said detectives also were investigating a shooting in Modesto's airport neighborhood. That shooting was reported at 8:21 p.m. in the 100 block of South Santa Ana Avenue.

He said it appears two people were shooting at each other and one was wounded. The wounded person was taken to a Modesto hospital. No other details were available.
