A 19-year-old man from Ceres was sentenced to 12 years in prison this month for trying to rob a Walgreens drugstore, according to the Stanislaus County district attorney's office.

Jeffrey Calvin Nutt entered the store on East Hatch Road just before 10 p.m. on June 19, 2008, armed with a sawed-off shotgun and wearing a heavy coat and mask, according to a news release. Nutt jumped the checkout counter and threatened a pregnant store clerk who ran as he ordered her to come forward and help him.

Nutt fled the store empty-handed, but bystanders pointed out his escape route to police, who arrested him a few blocks away.
