The two cases of probable swine flu reported in Merced County earlier this month have been confirmed, Merced County public health officials said Friday.

Merced County's health department reported the two probable cases June 11. The cases were confirmed as novel H1N1 flu late last week by a state public health lab in the Bay Area. The two cases are the first in Merced County.

A woman and a boy were stricken with the flu. The woman is recovering at home after being hospitalized, Merced County officials said, and the boy has recovered.

The two cases are not related.

On Monday, health officials reported the first confirmed case in Stanislaus County, a 22-year-old woman who became ill June 3. Officials said the woman was sick for a week and was treated as an outpatient.

The California Department of Public Health reported Thursday on its Web site 1,076 confirmed and 241 probable cases of swine flu statewide. The Web site also reported eight deaths.

Besides the one confirmed case in Stanislaus County, the Web site reported two probable cases here.

The Merced Sun-Star contributed to this report.
