Emergency responders rescued a group of Napa area students today after they became hypothermic while hiking in the Pinecrest Reservoir area.
Two teachers and seven seventh-grade students from Stone Bridge School were camping at Cleo's Bath, said Sheriff's Office spokesman Ken Diaz. They were hiking out this morning when one male and three female students began showing signs up hypothermia.
Tuolumne County Search and Rescue, Cal Fire and the Sheriff's Office boat patrol responded to the emergency, bringing the group across Pinecrest Lake to a firehouse. The four hypothermic children and another child showing signs of fatigue were treated there and released this afternoon.
Stone Bridge School is a charter school within the Napa School District. The students were on a four-day camping trip, according to the school Web site.
Meanwhile, it is snowing throughout the high country. Officials have closed Tioga Road in Yosemite National Park, and chains are required ten miles east of Strawberry on Highway 108.
