Oakdale Police: Family fight ends with man running over cousin

A family fight in Oakdale ended with a man running over his cousin in a Kmart parking lot Saturday night, police said.

Brian Cardoso, 20, of Manteca sustained a compound fracture of his left leg and broken pelvic bones when Adam Cardoso, 22, of Hilmar ran over him with a pickup about 10:05 p.m., said Sgt. Keri Redd.

Adam Cardoso was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. Another cousin who was involved in the incident, John Cardoso, 22, of Ripon, was arrested on suspicion of public intoxication.

Witnesses said all three men appeared intoxicated and were fighting inside the truck at the Kmart parking lot on Maag Avenue. At some point, Brian Cardoso got out of the truck.

Witnesses said Adam Cardoso then got into the driver's seat, made a U-turn and accelerated toward Brian Cardoso, running him over.

One witness reported seeing the truck bounce up and down as the vehicle ran over Brian Cardoso.

He was taken to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto. His injuries are not life-threatening, police said.
