CHALK ARTISTS SOUGHT: In conjunction with the annual concert by the Hilmar Community Band, the city of Turlock's Arts Commission is planning a Sidewalk Chalk Art contest at Crane Park on Saturday. The contest begins with square sign-ups at 9 a.m.; organizers promise prizes for kids, teens and adult artists. Prizes will be awarded at 1:15 p.m. For information, call 668-5599, ext. 4615.

HELP FOR THOSE WHO HAVE LOST A CHILD: Anyone who has had a child die in his or her family is invited to an informal meeting Thursday in Riverbank. Organizers are hoping to establish a chapter of The Compassionate Friends, a nonprofit self-help bereavement support organization for families that have experienced the death of a child.
