Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and golfing legend Jack Nicklaus are two of the speakers at this year's Maximum Impact Leadership Seminar, a Friday simulcast offered at venues in Turlock and Modesto.
The 11th annual event from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. is not religious, although it will be held at Enclave Community Church in Turlock and Calvary Temple Worship Center in Modesto.
The seminar is the brainchild of John C. Maxwell, who moved from pastoring to mentoring using leadership practices he learned in 25 years of shepherding churches in Ohio, Indiana and California.
Maxwell is the founder of The Injoy Group, which provides resources to help people reach personal and leadership goals. He has written 30 books, including the best-sellers "The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership" and "Failing Forward."
A news release for the seminar says, "Leadership is cultivated with humility and discipline. It merges the passion of the heart with the ability of the mind. Our premier speaker line-up places you in the craftsman's workshop -- hearing wisdom and experiences from the world's best leaders."
Christopher Scott, an organizer for the Turlock event, said, "People will get fresh ideas and a fresh perspective, a good reason to get out of the office. The speakers are outstanding."
Besides Blair, Nicklaus and Maxwell, the speakers are: Kevin Carroll, former Nike creator and author; Linda Kaplan Thaler, creator of the Aflac ad campaign and author of "The Power of Nice"; Al Weiss, president of Walt Disney Parks & Resorts; Bill George, Harvard business professor and former chief executive officer of Medtronic; Liz Murray, inspirational speaker and writer of "Homeless to Harvard"; Mark Sanborn, best-selling author of "The Fred Factor"; and Ernie Johnson, host of TNT's "Inside the NBA."
The Turlock event includes a silent auction of autographed books by some of the speakers that will benefit United Way of Stanislaus County.
Enclave is at 581 E. Canal Drive. Tickets are $65 if registered by today or $85 at the door. Contact Scott at 304-4291 or christopher.lynn.scott@gmail.com.
The Modesto event, co-sponsored by Calvary Temple and the Modesto Chamber of Commerce, will be at the church, 1601 Coffee Road. Tickets are $89 in advance or $99 at the door. Call 918-7818 or visit www.modestoleadershiplive.com.
