Each year around the March 2 birthday of Dr. Seuss, schools break out the books (see photos above) for the Read Across America program to encourage kids to read. In Photo No. 1, parent volunteer Ilene Ruesga treats second-graders Monday to the Dr. Seuss classic “Green Eggs and Ham” in a class taught by Felice Rodriguez at Osborn Elementary School in Turlock. In Photo No. 2, kindergartners at Osborn eagerly greet a special guest, the Dr. Seuss character “Cat in the Hat.” The program, which is in its 12th year, is sponsored by the National Education Association.
