CROWS LANDING BUSINESS GROUP MEETS: Commerciantes Unidos of Crows Landing, a coalition of business owners on Crows Landing Road, will meet Monday at 7 p.m. at Mi Pueblo Foods Center, 1612 Crows Landing Road. The speaker will be Gerry Kamilos, developer of the West Park project at the former Crows Landing Naval Air Station. The meeting is free and open to the public. LUNCH AND LEARN MEETING: The League of Women Voters of Stanislaus County will hold a Lunch and Learn on Tuesday. The speaker will be Kit McClurg, the county's senior health specialist who will speak on: "Is your food is safe to eat?" The no-host lunch will start at noon at Appetez Restaurant in Roseburg Square. HOT AIR AT ITS FINEST: Colorful hot air balloons will take to the sky Sept. 1-2 during a "Color the Skies Hot Air Balloon Festival." Free, it will be held at Mistlin Sports Park, 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. both days. Launch is scheduled between 6 and 7 a.m., after which a pancake breakfast including coffee and juice will be available for a minimal fee. Festivities will include Children's Hospital Central California Health and Prevention information booths, farmers market, cooking demonstrations, exercise fun, arts and crafts, clowning around, magic shows, youth performers, business and food vendors. Also, there will be a hot air balloon ride raffle prize to be enjoyed during the Sunday morning launch. All proceeds will benefit Children's Hospital Central California. SILENT MOVIE NIGHT: St. John's Lutheran Church will host an evening of silent movies Sunday with live accompaniment on the pipe organ by Dave Moreno of Sacramento, who has performed as a featured artist for Ironstone Winery in Murphys. The movies will begin at 3 p.m. and will be followed by an ice cream social in the church basement. A free-will offering will benefit the handicap access project. The church is on Michigan Avenue.
