Picnic, Pops and ABBA

Mama mia! There was quite a crowd Saturday evening during the Modesto Symphony Orchestra's annual Picnic at the pops concert. The Finnish vocal group Rajaton performed an ABBA tribute with the orchestra on the grounds of the E.&J. Gallo Winery.

Rajaton singer Essi Wuorela performed before thousands of listeners, who focused on the music and not the heat. The show started at 7 p.m., and the temperature was 99 degrees, according to the Modesto Irrigation District. The announcer said the evening turnout was the biggest for the annual concert.
