Manteca police say they believe two armed robbers struck Main Street within two hours of each other Monday.

The robberies do not appear related, said police spokesman Rex Osborn.

Just before 10 a.m., police went to Rite Aid, 900 N. Main St., after a man wearing a ball cap entered the store, found a manager and demanded money. The man had a small handgun, Osborn said.

He left from the back of the store with an undisclosed amount of cash. No one was injured, authorities said.

About 11:30 a.m., a man acting like a customer entered UPS at 1169 S. Main St., Osborn said. The man asked for change at the register. But once it was open, he pulled out a small handgun and grabbed cash from the drawer.

He ran north toward Mission Ridge Drive.

Police are reviewing video surveillance from both stores, but do not believe the robberies were committed by the same person.

Police said the Rite Aid robber was white, in his late 20s or early 30s, average height and wearing a light-colored shirt and shorts.

The UPS robber was described as white, in his early 20s, 5 feet 9 inches tall and slim. He wore a gray T-shirt, dark shorts and white tennis shoes.

South County Crime Stoppers, at 823-4636, offers up to $1,000 for information leading to the identification and conviction of these men.
