The Modesto City Council on Wednesday:

  • Approved a resolution from the League of California Cities opposing the borrowing of local government and transportation funds to balance the state budget. Councilwoman Kristin Olsen added a paragraph acknowledging state legislators had a difficult job.

    Vote: 6-0. Councilwoman Janice Keating did not attend the meeting.

  • Renewed service contracts in the Information Technology Department at a cost of $1.1 million.

    Vote: 5-0, consent calendar. Mayor Jim Ridenour left the meeting early.

  • Hired Carollo Engineers of Sacramento for work on an anaerobic digester. The company can earn up to $54,630.

    Vote: 5-0, consent calendar

  • Hired Carollo Engineers of Sacramento for work on sewage digester gas treatment system. The company can earn up to $48,672.

    Vote: 5-0, consent calendar

  • Awarded a $139,363 contract to HDR Engineering of Folsom for work designing a sewer replacement project.

    Vote: 5-0, consent calendar

  • Agreed to a joint-powers contract for the Modesto Police Department to participate in the Stanislaus Drug Enforcement Agency.

    Vote: 5-0, consent calendar

  • Awarded a $42,500 contract to an Oakdale company for emergency repairs to the Emerald Sewer Trunk line.

    Vote: 5-0, consent calendar

    In addition, the council met in closed session to discuss:
