The Stanislaus County Fair opens. It's Modesto Bee Night at the fair, benefiting United Samaritans; bring a canned food item and get $2 off one adult admission.

  • HIGHLIGHTS: Turlock Quilt Guild demos, 6-9 p.m.; apple pie contest, 6 p.m.; Jurassic Journey dinosaur exhibit, 5-11 p.m.; rabbit petting, 6-9 p.m.
  • ARENA: Tuff Trucks with special appearance by Tropical Thunder and The Patriot monster trucks, 7:30 p.m., $8 in addition to fair admission
  • VARIETY FREE STAGE: Clay Walker, 8:30 p.m.
  • CENTER STAGE: Ernie Bucio's Latin Funk Band, 7-11 p.m.
  • COMMUNITY STAGE: Stark Rhythm Maniacs, 5:45-8:30 p.m.
  • STAGE 4: Percussionation, 5:45, 6:45 and 7:45 p.m.; hypnotist Suzy Haner, 8:30 and 10 p.m.
  • HOURS: Gates open at 5 p.m.; exhibit buildings close at 11 p.m.; carnival closes at 1 a.m.
  • WHERE: From Highway 99, exit at Fulkerth Road in Turlock and head east. For parking, turn right on Soderquist Road, or go past Soderquist for more parking.
  • ADMISSION: $10 for adults ($8 with a can of food today), $3 for ages 6 to 12, free for ages 5 and younger
