DEMO ON ROBOTIC SURGICAL SYSTEM

TEACHING PARENTS AND TEENS TO COMMUNICATE

When: Starts Aug. 24, runs Sundays 5:30 to 8 p.m.

Where: First Baptist Church, 12th and Needham streets

Info: "NewStart" is a free, 12-week program geared toward building communication between parents and teens. The goal is to reach teens before they get into trouble, and to help parents deal with difficult situations. The program employs Modesto police officers and includes presentations from the Probation Department and a trip to the Straight Life Program at Deuel Vocational Institution in Tracy. Provided through the Parent Link Ministry of First Baptist Church, the course is open to all. Apply before Aug. 23. HEALTH AND SAFETY FAIR

Info: A free car seat safety check will be offered by the Modesto Police Department along with information by the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department bomb squad, dive team, K-9 unit, patrol and traffic units; fire engines and ambulance. Parks and Recreation lifeguards will talk about water safety, and free personal protection information will be available.
