75 YEARS AGO: Stanislaus County voters decisively repealed an initiative ordinance that prohibited the sale of 3.2 percent beer in unincorporated areas. They also joined the rest of California in supporting repeal of the 18th Amendment, which prohibited the manufacture, sale or transportation of intoxicating liquors within the United States and its territories.

25 YEARS AGO: Modestan Vivian Moultrie-Hawkins was selected for listing in the 1983 edition of "Who's Who of American Women" and the 1984-85 editions of "Who's Who in California" and "Who's Who in the West." Moultrie- Hawkins was chosen for her work with youth and involvement with the community. She was a counselor at Modesto High School.
