Officials scouring Yosemite for hiker
Yosemite National Park officials are combing the wilderness in search of a missing 24-year-old Honduran man. Spokeswoman Adrienne Freeman said authorities began the search for Esmeen Garmendia-Barrios on Monday morning after he was reported missing near Glacier Point about 3 p.m. Sunday. Garmendia-Barrios speaks Spanish and limited English, and last was seen in the Washburn Point parking area. Freeman said Garmendia- Barrios was wearing blue jeans, a blue T-shirt and black shoes, and was not carrying food or water. Anyone who was in the Sentinel Dome, Washburn Point or Glacier Point areas after 2 p.m. Sunday should call the park's investigations unit at 372-0311, even if they haven't seen the missing man.
Ceres concert series ready for 20th year
Tonight marks the beginning
of the 20th annual Ceres Concerts in the Park series at Whitmore Park. The seven- week schedule, sponsored by the Ceres Recreation Department, provides free entertainment to the community and an opportunity to get together in a safe and fun environment with friends and family on Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. Food and drink will be available.
Here's what concerts are coming up this month:
Tonight: Senior Night, featuring Valley Christian, El Redentor, Ceres Christian, Victory and Richland Faith churches
June 17: Graffiti Night, featuring Johnny Rocket & Thrust and an old-school car show
June 24: Kids Night, featuring the Harlan Star Band and free activities for kids provided by Ceres Recreation Department

Latino Community Roundtable dinner
The Latino Community Roundtable of Stanislaus County will hold a dinner Thursday to discuss issues such as district elections and voter registration and plan for upcoming events, including the Dia de la Familia Festival/ Day of the Family Festival later this month. 75 YEARS AGO: The News-Herald extras that told the news of Max Baer's technical knockout victory over Max Schmeling were on the streets of Modesto less than 15 minutes after the heavyweight title fight came to a sudden end at Yankee Stadium in New York.
50 YEARS AGO: Members of the Stanislaus County volunteer boat patrol went out in 10 boats for inspection- enforcement visits to Woodward and Modesto reservoirs. The effort led to 50 citations for violations of county boating rules.
