Allen's wife jailed
The wife of the man accused of killing California Highway Patrol officer Earl Scott two years ago near Salida was arrested on suspicion of being involved in an armed robbery Wednesday night in Stockton, police said. Bertera Allen, 31, of Stockton was being held Friday night at San Joaquin County Jail on a charge of misdemeanor theft. Witnesses told police that two men robbed two teens at gunpoint and that she was driving the getaway car, said Stockton police spokesman officer Pete Smith. Her husband, Columbus Allen Jr. II, is awaiting trial.

75 YEARS AGO: A Merced city landmark was threatened when fire hit the back porch of the old Thomas Hall residence at 436 19th St. The porch had considerable damage, but the house was saved.
