Modesto

CUT-A-THON: Adrian's Beauty College will host its third haircutting event Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with proceeds going to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The event will be held at 124 Floyd Ave.. Haircuts are $7. There also will be fingerprinting, activities for children, food, and raffles. BUY A BRICK: The Modesto Lions Club is joining with the city and community to develop the park at Morris and Virginia avenues along the Virginia Corridor. To help raise money to finish the park, the club is selling personalized bricks for $50 each. The bricks will be placed in the park's walkway. To order a brick, call 527-3190.

WHEELCHAIRS NEEDED: The Society for Handicapped Children and Adults is seeking wheelchairs, shower benches and walkers with seats. Donations can be dropped off at 1129 Eighth St. For details, call 524-3536 or log on to www.societyforhandicapped.org.

BENCH DEDICATION: Modesto High School will have a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a historic bench restored by the senior class that has been on the H Street campus since at least 1921. The ceremony will take place Monday at 3 p.m. in the school's courtyard at 18 H St. Modesto High seniors spent more than $8,500 to restore the bench. Julio Hallack, a local specialty concrete contractor, donated materials and expertise, saving the seniors about $20,000.

Ceres

CAMP SIGN-UPS: The Recreation Department is hosting a nine-week Summer Adventure Camp for ages 5 to 11. Campers will explore, tour, create, play and swim their way into fun this summer. Parents have an all-day option of 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. for $120 per week per camper, or a half-day option of 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for $65 per week per camper. A 15 percent discount will be given to families registering two or more children. Campers will be supervised by trained and certified staff. Parents can choose from the following themed weeks of camp: Sports Adventure (June 9-13), Animal Adventure (June 16-20), Science Adventure (June 23-27), Everyday is a Holiday Adventure (June 30-July 3), Theater & Art Adventure (July 7-11), Historical Heroes Adventure(July 14-18), Cultural Adventure (July 21-25), Community Appreciation Adventure (July 28-Aug. 1) and Cartoon Adventure (Aug. 4-8). Space is limited to 30 campers, so early registration is suggested. Hughson

NEW GARDEN CLUB TO START: Sign-ups for the new Hughson Garden Club will be in front of the Hughson Historical Society at the 20th Hughson Fruit and Nut Festival on Saturday and Sunday. Riverbank

CAMPS, CLASSES AND MORE: The city is taking registrations for swim lessons, Outdoor Adventure Camp, Science Camp, Skyhawks basketball, Skyhawks soccer, Karate Camp, Tadpoles in Training and more. For more information and dates, call the Recreation Department at 869-7010. Also, a bus trip is planned to Black Oak Casino on June 12. A Storer bus will leave the Riverbank Community Center, 3600 Santa Fe St., at 10 a.m. and return by 5 p.m. The cost of the trip is $16 and a minimum must be met.
