The Stanislaus County Superior Court on Monday will open two new courtrooms in an office building in downtown Modesto in anticipation of five new judges whose appointments are pending before Gov. Schwarzenegger.

The court renovated the fourth floor of the City Towers building at 801 10th St., where Judges Roger Beauchesne and David Vanderwall will hear civil cases.

The civil clerk's law office moved to the new building and is open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The move opens up two courtrooms in the main courthouse at 800 11th St.

The court has satellite offices in Ceres and Turlock, as well as a small claims and traffic court in central Modesto.

Officials also have their eyes on space that will become vacant when the U.S. Bankruptcy Court moves from 1130 12th St. to the second floor of a new office building at 832 12th St.

The court is anticipating of five new judgeships created by the Legislature, including three seats created in 2006 and two created in 2007. Officials believe additional judges will help push cases through the legal system more quickly and reduce backlogs.
