Get in the Easter spirit with the King-Kennedy Memorial Center's celebration featuring a pancake breakfast, egg hunt, and arts and crafts with the Easter Bunny. FREE FUN:

Experience an old-fashioned Easter at Columbia State Historic Park with a parade, costumed docents, egg hunts and visit from the Easter bunny. Sunday, noon (ages 3 to 5), 1 p.m. (ages 6 to 8) and 1:30 p.m. (ages 9 to 12) egg hunts; 12:30 p.m. parade. Free. 536-1672.

Whooping cough in Tuolumne County

Health officials have announced two confirmed cases of whooping cough in Tuolumne County and several more suspected cases. Tuolumne County Health Officer Dr. Todd Stolp said about 60 more people are taking antibiotics as a precautionary measure. For more information, call 533-7401.

Yesteryears

50 YEARS AGO: The congregation of the new Maze Boulevard Christian Church would begin holding services in its new edifice on Maze Boulevard. The building was of concrete block construction and was the first unit of a proposed church complex to be built on the five-acre site.

25 YEARS AGO: William H. Mattos, publisher of the West Side Index in Newman and the Hilmar Times in Hilmar, was named recipient of the John T. Silveira Memorial Service Award. The service award was presented to a member of the Newman Chamber of Commerce for outstanding contributions to the community.
