DEMOCRATS MEET TODAY: The monthly meeting of the Central Valley Democratic Club is at 7 p.m today at the Barkin Dog Grill, 940 11th St. Speakers include former Modesto City Councilman Denny Jackman, author of Measure E, who will talk about the impending legal battle the measure faces after being passed by voters. Taylor White, a student at Modesto Junior College, will speak about his decision to run against Republican Tom Berryhill for the Assembly. And Gary D. Robbins, Region 7 director, will discuss the upcoming state convention in San Jose and how the club needs volunteers and participants to attend.

CANCER SUPPORT: A Cancer Support Group is offered by the Community Cancer Program at Doctors Medical Center every Thursday from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in the Conference Center. For more information, call 888-284-6641.

TEEN NIGHT: The Parks, Recreation and Neighborhoods Department's Maddux Youth Center and Paradise South Weed and Seed Project is presenting the "Mix At 615" program, for ages 13 through 17. The program is held at the Maddux Youth Center, 615 Sierra Drive, each Friday night from 8 to midnight. The free program provides a safe location for teens to enjoy a variety of leisure activities. BIKE CAMP: The 2008 Adapted Bike Camp is scheduled for March 24-28 at Ustach Middle School. Disabled children use adapted bicycle equipment to build confidence and skills that eventually lead to their riding standard bicycles. CRAFT VENDORS SOUGHT: The Modesto Civitan Club is looking for crafters and vendors to sell their items at the upcoming Hearty Breakfast & Craft Fair on April 13 from 7:30 a.m. to noon at the Eagles Hall, 126 Camellia Way. The craft spaces are indoors and each vendor receives an 8-foot table. The cost for a space is $10. The event will be held rain or shine. WOMEN'S EMPOWERMENT: The Women's Empowerment Business Networking Luncheon will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the DoubleTree Hotel's Garden Terrace Restaurant. Join them for a business luncheon and discussion regarding the Crows Landing West Park project. Gerry Kamilos, the West Park developer, will talk about the 4,800-acre business and industrial park proposed at the Crows Landing air facility southeast of Patterson. KIDNEY SCREENINGS: Memorial Medical Center and the National Kidney Foundation will provide a free health screening for kidney disease on March 29, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the St. Stanislaus Catholic Church Hall, 709 J St. Twenty million Americans have early kidney disease and most don't know it. Early detection can prevent or delay the onset of chronic kidney disease. Participants must be 18 years of age or older and have been diagnosed with high blood pressure or diabetes, or have a blood relative with diabetes or blood pressure. The screening will include height/weight and blood pressure measurement, and a medical history questionnaire. Those who require further testing will have blood and urine samples collected by medical professionals. Medical professionals also will be available for private consultations.
