TURLOCK -- The Pitman High School math teacher arrested Friday on suspicion of committing sexual acts with a 17-year-old student was released from jail Saturday morning on $20,000 bail, a sheriff's spokesman said.

Sheriff's officials also arrested a Turlock police officer Friday on suspicion of rape, among other charges, with the same Pitman High girl.

The teacher, Carl Troy Kubicek, 35, of Turlock, was arrested on suspicion of multiple occurrences of unlawful sexual intercourse and oral copulation with a minor. Kubicek posted bail about 10 a.m., said Stanislaus County sheriff's deputy Royjindar Singh.

Attempts to reach Kubicek on Saturday were unsuccessful. A reporter knocked on the front door of what is believed to be his Turlock home, but nobody answered.

Kubicek, who also is an assistant football coach at the school, was placed on administrative leave after his arrest Friday, according to the Turlock Unified School District.

When reached by phone Saturday evening, Pitman's head football coach, Brandon Harris, said he could not comment on the arrest.

A substitute will teach Kubicek's classes, according to a statement from the school district. The school has arranged for counselors and psychologists to be available Monday morning.

Kubicek has been a teacher with the district since July 1, 2000, but has worked at locations other than Pitman.

Kubicek's arrest came on the same day sheriff's officials arrested police officer Jorge Fernando Cruz, 31, who is a three-year Turlock Police Department veteran.

Cruz was arrested on suspicion of rape, sodomy with a minor, unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor and oral copulation with a minor. He was booked at Stanislaus County Jail and posted bail about 7:20 p.m. Friday, Singh said.

Turlock Police Chief Gary Hampton said both men confessed to the crimes. The officer and the teacher did not know each other, and the relationships did not overlap.
