CELEBRATE THE DAY: Christian Love Baptist Church will host its 23rd annual Martin Luther King Jr. celebration on Monday at 10 a.m. at 202 H St. Keynote speaker will be Arturo Flores, superintendent of Modesto City Schools. For more information, call 516-1034.

LOOK TO THE PAST: The Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1614 H St., will present "In Search of Meaning, From the Sands of the Past." ADULT EDUCATION CLASSES OFFERED: The Modesto City Schools Adult Education Program is registering students in classes to achieve their high school diplomas, GED preparation and English as a Second Language courses. A meeting with an adult education counselor can be arranged for students wishing to earn a high school diploma. High school seniors may enter the adult education program to complete deficient credits. GED preparation classes are offered at a variety of times and locations in Modesto and Salida. GED students have the opportunity to earn a free preparation book. ESL courses are being held at many sites, some offering child care. All classes begin the week of Jan. 28 and are free. COMING UP: Teacher preparation for the CBEST examination workshops will be held Feb. 4-8 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. each day for the mathematics workshop and noon to 2 p.m. for the reading/writing session. The workshops are open to all. They are designed to qualify student teachers for jobs and will focus on mathematics and tutorials on reading and writing skills. The fee for the 20 hours of review and instruction is $100. All sessions will be held at the California State University, Stanislaus, Tutoring Center in Vasché Library, One University Circle, off West Monte Vista Avenue. ENCOURAGING FITNESS IN KIDS: The city is offering a Kid-Fit program to get children in shape. Kids get together for a half hour of fun, dancing, full movement exercise and games. At the same time, they are learning valuable information about nutrition and their growing bodies. This is the only fitness and nutrition program just for preschoolers, ages 2 to 6. The class is held Wednesdays from 10:30 to 11 a.m. and 2:30 to 3 p.m. at the American Legion Hall. The cost is $19 a month. Register at City Hall, 2720 Second St., or online at www.ci.ceres.ca.us.
