Haven Women’s Center will celebrate its 36th anniversary in December of this year.
Started in 1977 as Haven Stanislaus Refuge Center, the organization has since merged with the Women’s Center of Stanislaus and the Stanislaus Rape Task Force to become what it is today — a resource for women who are victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.
In 2013, Haven opened a branch in Turlock to expand the accessibility of services there. Haven operates a shelter for women and children escaping a dangerous home situation.
There, clients go through a 60-day program that includes case management services, support groups, restraining order assistance, referrals and advocacy. Haven also operates a 24-hour crisis line, where women can get help at any time.
